RULAAC Sends Strong Message To South-East Governors Over 2027 Elections

Written by Mary Bassey

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has insisted that no governor or political leader has the authority to decide how people in the South-East will vote, stressing that the power to elect candidates rests solely with the electorate.

The organisation maintained that votes in the region cannot be treated as political property that governors can freely pledge to any presidential candidate or political party.

RULAAC emphasised that every eligible voter has the constitutional right to independently choose their preferred candidate without intimidation, political pressure or undue influence.

The group also stressed the importance of protecting voters’ freedom of choice as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

It urged political leaders to respect democratic principles and recognise that electoral decisions must reflect the wishes of the people rather than agreements reached by political officeholders.

RULAAC’s position reinforces the principle that political mandates come from voters, not endorsements or declarations made by governors on their behalf.
