The Federal High Court in Abuja has reportedly nullified the leadership structure of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President, David Mark, in a ruling that could affect former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition.
The judgment was reportedly delivered on Thursday, November 5, 2026, by Justice Peter Lifu, following a suit instituted by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Vice Chairman of the party.
Bala had challenged the emergence of the Mark-led leadership, arguing that the process violated the ADC constitution and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.
The plaintiff also asked the court to restrain Mark and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, from parading themselves as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.
According to reports, the court upheld Bala’s claims and invalidated the authority of the Mark-led leadership, including decisions taken by the leadership on behalf of the party.
The ruling also affects the party’s presidential primary that produced Atiku Abubakar as its candidate for the 2027 general elections, potentially creating fresh uncertainty over the validity of his nomination.
The development could further deepen the leadership crisis within the opposition party as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the ADC has indicated its intention to challenge the judgment at the appellate court, setting the stage for another round of legal battles over the party’s leadership and political future.
