A 40-year-old British woman, identified as Claire Chadwick, has reportedly died alongside her unborn baby after developing a severe infection while pregnant in Nigeria.
Chadwick, who was 37 weeks pregnant, reportedly suffered septic shock after her baby died in the womb. She had relocated from the United Kingdom to Nigeria to begin a new life with her husband, Ibrahim.
The couple were known for sharing aspects of their relationship, religious faith and food challenges on TikTok and Instagram, where their videos attracted thousands of followers.
Her family has since launched a GoFundMe campaign titled Bringing Claire Home, with an initial target of £10,000 to cover the cost of repatriating her body and associated legal arrangements.
The appeal was organised by her sister, Shannon Chadwick, who said the family’s greatest wish was to have Claire and her baby girl returned to the UK so they could be laid to rest with dignity, surrounded by loved ones.
According to the fundraiser, Claire also leaves behind a 19-year-old son in Wales, her husband and other relatives.
The fundraising campaign has reportedly exceeded its initial £10,000 target, attracting hundreds of donations from well-wishers.
The UK Foreign Office also confirmed that it is supporting the family following the death of the British woman in Nigeria. GoFundMe +2
