A 19-year-old Nigerian-born man has been sentenced to four years in prison in the United Kingdom after attempting to rob a Porsche owner at gunpoint during what was supposed to be a car-buying meeting in London.
The defendant, identified as Fawaz Oyedeji, reportedly targeted a £72,500 Porsche Cayenne after contacting its owner in response to an online advertisement.
The incident happened on March 18, 2025, when Oyedeji arranged to inspect the luxury vehicle at the owner’s residence in Southwark, London.
According to details of the case, the owner showed him the vehicle before both men s,at inside to discuss the proposed sale. However, the meeting allegedly took a dangerous turn when Oyedeji produced what appeared to be a firearm, pointed it at the owner and demanded the car keys.
The victim reportedly fought back, forcing the teenager to abandon the robbery and flee without the vehicle.
Police subsequently launched an investigation, using CCTV footage, mobile phone records and forensic evidence to identify the suspect.
Investigators traced the phone used to arrange the meeting to Oyedeji and established links between the device, his residence and the scene of the attempted robbery.
He was arrested at his Greenwich home on March 20, less than 38 hours after the incident.
Oyedeji was later convicted on August 12 of attempted robbery and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. The jury reportedly reached its guilty verdict after just 26 minutes of deliberation.
He was subsequently sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at Inner London Crown Court on Thursday.
The case highlights how an attempted luxury car sale turned into a robbery attempt, which ultimately ended with the teenager behind bars.
