2027: APC Chairman Predicts Over 70% of Northern Votes for Tinubu

Written by Mary Bassey

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu could secure more than 70 per cent of the votes from Northern Nigeria in the 2027 presidential election.

Yilwatda made the prediction on Saturday, October 17, during the commissioning of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) secretariat in Abuja, where party supporters gathered to strengthen efforts towards Tinubu’s re-election.

The APC chairman expressed confidence in the President’s chances, urging northern residents to support his administration for another term.

He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, federal appointments and government programmes as reasons the region should support Tinubu.

Yilwatda has previously highlighted road projects covering more than 3,000 kilometres across Northern Nigeria, describing them as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the region. He has also cited the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) among initiatives he believes could benefit northern communities.

The Arewa for Asiwaju group was established to mobilise support for Tinubu across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group is led by former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and includes prominent political figures who are working to strengthen the APC’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Its members have also identified low voter turnout and voter apathy as challenges they intend to address ahead of the election.

However, Yilwatda’s projection of more than 70 per cent of the Northern votes remains a political prediction, not a confirmed electoral outcome. The actual result will depend on voter turnout, the candidates, campaign performance and the choices Nigerians make at the polls.

With the 2027 presidential election approaching, the APC is intensifying efforts to consolidate its support base across the country, particularly in the North, which remains a key region in Nigeria’s presidential elections.
