The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a suspected counterfeit alcoholic drinks production facility valued at over ₦500 million in Aba, Abia State.
The facility was reportedly discovered at No. 25 Omenazu Street, Aba, during an operation by the agency.
The discovery raises fresh concerns about the production and distribution of counterfeit alcoholic beverages and the potential risks such products pose to consumers.
Counterfeit alcoholic drinks may contain unsafe ingredients or harmful substances capable of causing serious health complications. Consumers are therefore advised to purchase alcoholic beverages from reputable outlets and check product labels, seals and other identifying features before consumption.
NAFDAC is responsible for regulating and controlling the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement and sale of regulated products, including alcoholic beverages, to ensure they meet the required safety and quality standards.
Further details about the operation, including the identities of those responsible for the facility, the specific products recovered and possible arrests, should be confirmed through official statements from the agency.
The discovery underscores the importance of continued enforcement against counterfeit products and public vigilance in protecting consumers from potentially dangerous alcoholic beverages.
