Nigerian influencer Chukwudi Nnayerugo, popularly known as Killaboi, has told a Lagos State High Court how he allegedly discovered Instagram messages discussing payment for sex while monitoring the account of his late girlfriend, Augusta.
Nnayerugo, who is standing trial over the alleged murder of Augusta, gave the account while testifying before Justice Ibironke Harrison at the court’s TBS Annex in Igbosere, Lagos.
According to his testimony, he began monitoring Augusta’s Instagram account after she returned to school in June 2023. He claimed that he later came across messages from an account identified as “Yako”, whose user allegedly referred to Augusta as “sweetheart” and suggested continuing their conversation on Instagram.
The defendant told the court that the conversation allegedly progressed to a discussion about payment for sex, with Augusta reportedly insisting that she would not reduce her price.
Nnayerugo claimed he subsequently obtained a virtual SIM card, created a WhatsApp account using the name and profile picture associated with “Yako”, and continued the conversation while pretending to be the person behind the account.
He alleged that Augusta demanded ₦1.5 million, rejected his proposed payment of ₦800,000 and later agreed to the arrangement. He further claimed that she agreed to have sex without a condom, provided both parties underwent medical tests beforehand.
The defendant said the alleged discovery left him shaking and emotionally distressed. He told the court that he initially considered arranging a hotel meeting to confront Augusta but later abandoned the idea.
He further testified that he eventually initiated a video call with her. According to him, Augusta screamed and dropped the phone after seeing his face. He claimed he confronted her about the alleged arrangement and told her their relationship was over.
Nnayerugo also told the court that Augusta’s mother questioned him over his decision to access her daughter’s Instagram account, reportedly describing the act as wrong and a criminal offence.
Defence Requests Consideration for Augusta’s Family
During the proceedings, defence counsel Marcel Oru asked the court to allow Augusta’s mother and brother to leave before a proposed video recording was played, citing concerns about the emotional distress the footage could cause them.
Prosecuting counsel Adebayo Araba did not oppose the request.
Justice Harrison subsequently adjourned the case to Thursday, October 22, for further proceedings.
The allegations about the Instagram messages and the defendant’s account of events remain part of his testimony in the ongoing trial. They should not be treated as independently established facts or as proof of guilt.
