The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three secondary school students, including a 12-year-old, over a suspected cult initiation activity in Owode-Yewa, Ogun State.
The arrests followed intelligence received by the police on October 22, 2026, about a planned cult-related gathering reportedly tagged “Kito Day,” involving students from different secondary schools in the area.
According to the police, detectives from the Owode-Yewa Division carried out the operation in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, successfully disrupting the suspected activity.
The three students, aged 12, 18 and 18, were arrested during the operation, while security operatives recovered several items suspected to be connected to the planned gathering.
The recovered items included an English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag, according to reports on the police statement.
The police said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The incident has raised concerns about the involvement of young students in suspected cult-related activities and the need for parents, guardians and school authorities to pay closer attention to the associations and activities of young people.
The police have reiterated their commitment to preventing cult-related activities and maintaining peace and security across Ogun State. The investigation is expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
