Julius Udayi Says PDP ‘Rainbow Coalition’ in Cross River State Faces Collapse Ahead of 2027 Elections

Written by calabarGist

Julius Udayi, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Senator Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has declared that the party’s alleged “Rainbow Coalition” in Cross River State is facing an imminent collapse, urging members to remain united as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Udayi made the declaration in a statement addressed to PDP candidates, party members, the media, security agencies and the people of Cross River State, in which he expressed confidence in the legal process surrounding the party’s leadership and candidate recognition in the state.

Udayi Reacts to Venatius Ikem’s Resignation

The PDP gubernatorial candidate reacted to the reported resignation of Mr Venatius Ikem, Esq., whom he described as a factional chairman of the party allegedly backed by the faction loyal to Governor Nyesom Wike.

According to Udayi, Ikem’s resignation was a significant development that his faction had anticipated. He suggested that the decision could be connected to an anticipated judgment of the Nigerian Court of Appeal concerning the party’s internal leadership and political disputes.

Udayi, however, did not provide details of the pending case or the expected date of judgment in his statement.

He commended Ikem for what he described as a spirit of sportsmanship and wished him well in his future career and endeavours.

Turaki-Led Faction Insists on Authentic PDP Candidates

Udayi reiterated his faction’s position that candidates nominated by the Turaki-led caretaker committee are the authentic PDP flag bearers in Cross River State.

He specifically identified himself, Mr Ebri Inah and other candidates nominated by the faction as the party’s legitimate candidates, expressing confidence that the pending legal proceedings would clarify the dispute.

The gubernatorial candidate maintained that the political developments surrounding the party would eventually enable members to concentrate on strengthening the PDP and preparing for the 2027 elections.

His assertions reflect the position of his faction amid the ongoing dispute over the party’s leadership and candidate legitimacy in Cross River State.

Udayi Calls for Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Despite the internal disagreements, Udayi appealed to PDP members to remain calm, hopeful, law-abiding and committed to the ideals of the party.

He expressed optimism that the challenges confronting the PDP would ultimately strengthen its unity and collective resolve, urging members to remain prayerful while focusing on preparations for the next general elections.

“As a gubernatorial candidate of the authentic PDP faction loyal to Senator Tanimu Turaki, SAN, I remain confident that the days ahead hold great promises for our party,” Udayi stated.

He added that unity, patience and collective determination would be essential to overcoming the party’s current difficulties.

Udayi Outlines Vision for Cross River State

Beyond the party’s internal crisis, Udayi reiterated his commitment to harnessing Cross River State’s human and natural resources to promote self-sufficiency, inclusive development and a better future for residents.

He called for a stronger PDP capable of advancing development and addressing the aspirations of the people of Cross River State.

The statement comes amid continuing disagreements over the PDP’s leadership structure and candidates in the state, with the outcome of pending legal proceedings expected to be significant to the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
