Tope Alabi Sends Strong Warning to Social Media Users, Threatens Lawsuit

Written by Mary Bassey

Popular Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has warned social media users and other individuals against spreading statements she considers damaging to her reputation, threatening to take legal action against offenders.

The singer, through her legal representatives, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, issued the warning in a public notice shared on her Instagram page on October 23, 2026.

According to the notice, individuals who publish, repost, share or circulate alleged defamatory content about the gospel artiste could face legal consequences.

Her lawyers also cautioned social media users against assuming that anonymous accounts would protect them from possible legal action over their online activities.

However, the notice clarified that the warning was not intended to stop people from making truthful statements, expressing fair opinions or discussing matters of public interest within the law.

The development highlights the growing concerns surrounding online publications and the potential legal consequences of spreading unverified claims about public figures.

Tope Alabi is one of Nigeria’s prominent gospel singers, widely known for her Yoruba gospel music and contributions to the Nigerian gospel music industry.
