The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gombe State Command, has arrested a 22-year-old man, Abdulrahman Ali, over the alleged vandalism of an armoured electricity cable supplying power to a depot operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) in Gombe State.
The arrest followed the alleged damage to the cable, which supplies electricity to the facility. The incident raises concerns about the protection of critical national infrastructure and the potential disruption that vandalism could cause to essential operations.
The NSCDC is responsible for protecting critical national assets, including electricity installations and other public infrastructure. The corps has repeatedly warned that vandalism can lead to service disruptions, financial losses and additional repair costs.
Ali’s arrest is expected to allow security operatives to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence. However, details regarding the date of the arrest, the value of the damaged cable and whether the suspect has been charged to court were not independently confirmed in the available reports.
