Remi Tinubu Reveals the Kind of Nigeria She Hopes to Leave in 2031

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed hope that she will leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 and live in a country where she can enjoy a better quality of life in her 70s.

She made the statement on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots group mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady said she hoped to see further improvements in Nigeria before leaving Aso Rock at the end of her husband’s tenure, by the grace of God.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.

Remi Tinubu also pointed to changes in the country’s aviation sector, particularly at Nigerian airports, as signs of progress. She said she looked forward to travelling more easily and spending less time navigating airport processes.

The First Lady further suggested that some Nigerians were yet to recognise the changes taking place in the country. In a light-hearted remark, she said those who could not see the progress might need what she called “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses,” referring to the administration’s efforts.

She subsequently commissioned the movement’s Abuja headquarters, expressing support for President Tinubu’s anticipated 2027 re-election campaign.

“To the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.

The event was part of efforts by supporters of the President to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next general election.

The First Lady also expressed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the movement’s convener, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
