The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement 2027 has criticised former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his comments on President Bola Tinubu’s three-week vacation in Europe.
Atiku had faulted Tinubu’s decision to embark on the vacation amid economic hardship and insecurity in the country, arguing that Nigeria was experiencing what he described as a “disturbing vacuum of political leadership.”
Reacting to the criticism, the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement 2027 dismissed Atiku’s position, describing it as an attempt to turn the President’s annual leave into a political controversy.
The group maintained that Tinubu’s temporary absence from Nigeria did not amount to a leadership vacuum, stressing that the President remained constitutionally empowered to proceed on vacation while government business continued.
According to the group, the President’s leave should not be interpreted as abandonment of his responsibilities, particularly as the administration’s officials and institutions remained operational during his absence.
The movement also accused Atiku of politicising an ordinary administrative decision ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It urged Nigerians to distinguish between legitimate political criticism and what it described as attempts to create unnecessary controversy around the President’s activities.
The group further called on political actors to focus their campaigns on policies, programmes and issues affecting Nigerians rather than using the President’s annual leave as a basis for questioning the continuity of government.
Tinubu departed Abuja on Sunday for Europe on a three-week vacation as part of his 2026 annual leave. The trip has continued to attract political reactions, with opposition figures questioning the timing of the President’s absence from the country.
The development comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, in which Atiku is expected to be a major opposition figure.
