The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake online recruitment notice claiming that the commission has commenced the recruitment and training of ad-hoc staff for the 2027 General Election.
The warning followed the circulation of a message on social media directing prospective applicants to a website purportedly established by INEC for the recruitment exercise.
INEC, however, said the message did not originate from the commission and urged members of the public to be cautious of fraudulent websites and messages seeking to obtain their personal information.
In a statement issued on Monday, the commission said it had become aware of the online message claiming that it was currently recruiting and training ad-hoc personnel ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a message circulating online claiming that the Commission is currently recruiting and training ad-hoc staff for the 2027 General Election,” the statement said.
The commission advised Nigerians not to rely on unverified social media posts or websites for information concerning electoral recruitment.
INEC has previously used its INEC-PRES platform for the recruitment, training and deployment of ad-hoc election personnel. The platform is an official system designed to support the recruitment of polling-unit election staff when such exercises are authorised.
The commission has also warned Nigerians in previous recruitment-related incidents about fraudulent websites created to mislead applicants. In one such case, INEC cautioned the public against a fake recruitment website and advised people to rely only on its official communication channels.
As preparations for the 2027 General Election continue, INEC has urged Nigerians to verify recruitment announcements through its official website and verified communication platforms before submitting personal details or applying for any advertised position.
The commission’s official website remains the primary source for its announcements, election-related updates and other public information.
Members of the public are therefore advised to exercise caution and avoid clicking on suspicious recruitment links or providing sensitive personal information on unverified websites.
