Atlético Madrid Complete Morten Hjulmand Signing from Sporting in €45m Deal

Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP, continuing an ambitious summer transfer window under the club’s rebuilding plans.

The deal is worth an initial €40 million, with performance-related add-ons taking the total package to €45 million. All parties have now reached a full agreement, paving the way for the midfielder’s move to the Spanish capital.

Hjulmand is expected to fly to Madrid later today to complete the final formalities, including his medical, before signing a long-term contract that will keep him at Atlético Madrid until June 2031.

The 26-year-old becomes Atlético’s latest major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Kang-in Lee and Alejandro Grimaldo. His addition strengthens Diego Simeone’s midfield with a player known for his leadership, defensive awareness, and ability to control possession.

Hjulmand enjoyed an impressive spell at Sporting CP, where he established himself as one of the Portuguese league’s standout midfielders. His consistent performances attracted interest from several top European clubs, but Atlético moved quickly to secure his signature.

The Spanish club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new season, with Hjulmand expected to play a key role as Atlético aim to challenge for both the La Liga title and UEFA Champions League honours.

An official announcement from Atlético Madrid is expected once the midfielder completes his medical examinations and signs his contract.
