Barça Move to Sue Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez Over Alleged Defamatory Statements

Barça have confirmed that they have begun legal proceedings against Florentino Pérez, following comments made by the Florentino Pérez during a press conference on May 12 and a media interview the following day.

In an official statement, Barcelona announced that they have filed the mandatory request for conciliation, a required step before submitting a formal criminal complaint for alleged slander under Article 205 of the Spanish Criminal Code.

The club stated that the legal action is aimed at forcing Pérez to retract statements they believe were made with knowledge of their alleged falsehood and that have damaged Barcelona’s image and reputation.

“Barcelona reports that the mandatory request for conciliation has been filed prior to the filing of a complaint for a crime of slander of Article 205 of the Criminal Code against the President of Real Madrid, Mr. Florentino Pérez,” the club said.

Barcelona added that the request seeks a formal retraction of the comments, which the club described as “slanderous and offensive” to its standing.

The Catalan club further warned that if the matter is not resolved through the conciliation process, they will proceed with the presentation of the corresponding criminal complaint against Pérez.

The dispute adds another chapter to the long-standing rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid, with tensions between the two Spanish giants continuing both on and off the pitch.

As the legal process develops, attention will now turn to Pérez’s response and whether the matter can be resolved before reaching the next stage of judicial proceedings.
