Bassey Akiba Defection: why I Have to Move to APC

Hon. Bassey Akiba defection from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress raises serious questions about his political commitment and credibility. He was elected on the LP platform, a party that represented hope and trust for the people, at a time when APC was firmly in power. His move to the APC is to address the growing concerns over his constituents as the representative for Calabar Municipality and Odukpani Federal Constituency.

Bassey Akiba Defection

why I Have to Move to APC, This decision is guided by two primary reasons:

Division and Factionalization within the Labour Party:

The Labour Party is currently embroiled in a severe and unresolved crisis, with two factions at the national level vying for leadership. This division has extended to the state, local government, and ward levels, as evidenced is shown by the existence Labour Party executive in Cross River State.

This dysfunction has rendered the party ineffective in fostering unity and providing a stable platform for governance. It has also created a toxic atmosphere where attending meetings called by one faction is perceived as disloyalty by the other, limiting my ability to effectively represent my constituency under the Labour Party.

The Governor’s Outstanding Performance and the Need for Synergy:
The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu, has demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to development, particularly in my Federal Constituency. His ongoing projects and initiatives are significantly transforming the lives of my constituents. To strengthen collaboration and maximize the benefits of his administration’s efforts for my people, I have resolved to join the APC.

Additionally, a vast majority of my supporters from the 2023 elections, many of whom were previously in the Labour Party, have moved to the APC. Aligning with the APC ensures I remain in sync with my supporters and enables me to contribute more effectively to the progress of my constituency, state, and the nation at large.

In Conclusion

This decision is made in good faith and in full consideration of the constitutional provisions and my commitment to the welfare of my people. As Bassey Akiba defection isn’t a bad decision
