In line with his desire to join the state government’s sanitation drive, the Honourable Member, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep. Bassey Akiba, earlier today, led aides and members of the community to participate in the monthly sanitation exercise, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment.
In a rare display of exemplary leadership, the federal lawmaker personally participated and supervised the sanitation exercise within Calabar Municipality.
Addressing newsmen, Rep. Bassey Akiba who is also the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, underscored the collective responsibility of every citizen, stating, “All hands must be on deck to achieve a cleaner, healthier, and livable environment”.
In the words of Rep. Bassey Akiba, “What is required to maintain a clean and healthy environment is not just about what the government is doing, but also about the people’s attitude. I will advise that we make environmental cleanliness a conscious act; stop every form of littering, and dispose of refuse properly. Littering and indiscriminate dumping terribly pollute the environment, including the air we breathe, and can lead to the spread of diseases”.
He commended the state government for the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation, increased awareness on proper waste disposal and management.
Encomiums have trailed this proactive effort, with constituents commending Rep. Bassey Akiba for not only championing environmental health policies but taking a hands-on approach.
Rep. Bassey Akiba remains committed to spearheading initiatives that improve the welfare and well-being of his constituents and is determined to continue to support efforts toward a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
