The Cross River State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state ahead of the 2026 Ember Season and the forthcoming Yuletide celebrations, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directing Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Heads of Formations to heighten patrols and surveillance.
The directive was issued during the Command’s weekly briefing on Monday, September 7, 2026, amid expectations of increased movement of people, commercial activities and social gatherings across Cross River during the festive period.
Police Order Increased Patrols Across Cross River
CP Ordue directed police commanders across the state to sustain strategic deployments and intensify highly visible, intelligence-driven patrols in crime-prone areas.
The patrols are expected to cover major entry and exit routes, markets, motor parks, business districts and other public spaces considered vulnerable to criminal activities.
The Commissioner said the Command would adopt a proactive approach to security rather than wait for criminal incidents to occur.
“We are not waiting for criminals to strike before we respond. We are moving ahead of them. Every commander must take responsibility for the security of his area and ensure that the presence of the Police is seen and sustained.”
Operation Velvet Extends to Cross River Waterways
As part of the expanded security strategy, the Commissioner is set to launch Operation VELVET on the waterways at the Dolphin Marine Base, Calabar, on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The maritime operation will extend the Command’s security offensive beyond land-based operations and strengthen surveillance along Cross River’s maritime corridors.
According to the Police, the waterway operation will complement intensified land patrols and provide broader security coverage, particularly during the festive season when movement and commercial activities are expected to increase.
Police Warn Criminal Elements
CP Ordue warned criminal elements that the Command was prepared to disrupt criminal activities and prevent security gaps from being exploited.
He assured residents, visitors and businesses across Cross River State of the Police Command’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful and secure environment throughout the Ember and Yuletide seasons.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, activities or movements to the Police.
The Command said the increased security measures are aimed at ensuring that residents and visitors can move freely and conduct their legitimate activities in a safe environment throughout the festive period.
