Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has suggested that 2026 could be the year he finally wins the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
The France international made the statement on Monday during a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League clash with Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday.
Mbappé, 27, said playing for Real Madrid naturally puts him among the leading contenders for football’s most prestigious individual prize.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star also expressed confidence in his ability, saying he personally considers himself the best player in the world, while acknowledging that fans and football observers are free to have different opinions.
“I think when you play for Real Madrid, the best club in the world, people associate you with this award,” Mbappé said.
The forward joined Real Madrid in 2024 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain and has since continued to establish himself as one of the club’s key attacking players.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup also taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Mbappé could have another major opportunity to strengthen his case for the Ballon d’Or if he produces a standout campaign for both club and country.
The Ballon d’Or is awarded annually to the player judged to have had the most outstanding individual year, with performances for club and country playing an important role in the voting process.
Mbappé will now turn his attention to Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign as the Spanish giants prepare to face Inter Milan in their opening fixture.
