Cyberstalking Case: Why Woman Remains in Kirikiri Despite ₦3m Bail

Written by Mary Bassey

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered that 35-year-old Ifeoma Nwafor remain at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after granting her bail in a case involving the alleged cyberstalking of businesswoman Folashade Okoya.

Justice Deinde Dipeolu granted Nwafor bail in the sum of ₦3 million, with two sureties in the same amount. However, the judge directed that she remain in custody until the bail conditions are fully met

Nwafor was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and alleged cyberstalking of Okoya, the Managing Director of Eleganza Industrial City Limited and wife of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya.

According to the prosecution, Nwafor allegedly acted with others who are still at large and participated in publishing materials on Instagram which were described as offensive, false, malicious and calculated to cause annoyance, fear, intimidation and anxiety to Okoya.

The police also alleged that photographs of Okoya and statements considered derogatory were published through several Instagram accounts.

Nwafor pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

Her lawyer, O.J. Aduwa, urged the court to grant her bail, assuring the court that she would be available throughout the trial. The prosecution did not oppose the bail application

The court ordered that the two sureties must reside within its jurisdiction, with one being a blood relation of the defendant. They are also required to provide evidence of three years’ tax payment, National Identification Numbers, photographs and affidavits of compliance.

Nwafor is equally required to swear an undertaking that she will make herself available for trial.

The case, filed as Suit No. FHC/LAG/CR/819/2026, has been adjourned until November 8, 2026, for trial.

It is important to note that Nwafor has not been convicted of any offence. She remains an accused person and has pleaded not guilty to the allegations against her.
