Ogun Court Takes Action After Police Officers Were Allegedly Assaulted

Written by Mary Bassey

Three suspects have been arraigned before an Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court in Ogun State over the alleged obstruction and assault of police officers performing their lawful duties.

The suspects were identified as Alaba Mulika, 51; Alawode Iyanu, 21; and Temitope Saliu, 29.

The case followed an incident on September 29, 2026, when a police team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel reportedly intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, while the vehicle was being taken to the police station, a Toyota Highlander allegedly blocked its movement at Abobi Street. A physical confrontation reportedly followed, during which Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted.

The police said video recordings of the incident, which later circulated on social media, formed part of the materials reviewed during the investigation.

Following an order by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, detectives investigated the incident, visited the scene and arrested the suspects.

They were subsequently arraigned on five counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged serious assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The court reportedly granted each defendant bail of ₦500,000 with sureties. However, they were unable to meet the bail conditions and were remanded at the Ijebu-Ode Correctional Facility. The case was adjourned until October 12, 2026, for further hearing.

The police command urged members of the public to channel complaints through lawful means rather than resorting to physical confrontation with police personnel.
