Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has announced plans to appoint 1,710 Executive Assistants across the state’s 171 political wards, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots participation in governance.
The governor made the announcement on September 1, 2026, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 13 newly elected local government chairmen and their vice chairmen in Abakaliki.
According to reports, the planned appointments will see 10 persons selected from each ward, comprising five women, two men and three youths.
Nwifuru explained that the initiative was designed to promote inclusiveness, expand political participation and bring governance closer to residents at the grassroots.
He directed ward chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work with local government chairmen, development centre coordinators and other relevant stakeholders in identifying suitable candidates for the positions.
Although the governor did not disclose the specific responsibilities or remuneration attached to the appointments, the initiative is expected to strengthen engagement between the state government and communities across Ebonyi.
The announcement came shortly after the inauguration of the newly elected council leadership, with the governor urging them to prioritise development and effective service delivery in their respective local government areas.
