Nigerian gospel singer Esther Igbekele is mourning the death of her mother, Mary Amope Igbekele (JP).
The gospel artiste announced the heartbreaking news in an emotional post shared on her Instagram page on Friday.
Expressing her grief, Esther wrote: “AND MY MOTHER DIED. Death, you took my GOLD away.”
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of condolences from fans, friends and well-wishers who have joined the singer in mourning her loss.
Mary Amope Igbekele was recently celebrated by her family as she marked her 70th birthday and wedding anniversary, making the news of her death particularly emotional for the family.
Esther Igbekele, who is known for her gospel music and ministry, has yet to disclose further details about her mother’s death or funeral arrangements as of the time of this report.
The family is expected to announce details of the burial and other funeral arrangements in due course.
