Gender Based Violence: C’River Govt. Train Teachers on Safe Spaces, 6 Pillar Initiatives

The Cross River State Government in partnership with the Gender and Development Action (GADA) has completed a 2-Day training for teachers on Guidance and Counseling in select secondary schools across the state on safe spaces.

The 2-day training, which saw participants drawn from both the formal and non-formal sectors, covered an array of topics from management of safe spaces, acquisition of life skills’ referral pathways, as the state government continue to advance efforts in protecting women and the girl child.

Speaking on behalf of the State Governor’, the Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of International Development Cooperation (MIDC), Dr Inyang Asibong expressed profound satisfaction at the commitment shown by the organizers and participants, reiterating the resolve of the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for women and the girl child at all levels of learning in the state.

Dr Asibong said the initiative is hinged on 6 concrete pillars which are; Law & Policies, Institutions, Prevention, Services, Data and Women’s Management. The focus of the state government, according to the MIDC Boss, is on Prevention and Services as they address root causes of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Harmful Practices (HP), while ensuring access to inclusive, timely and quality service for both victims and survivors.
