The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has cleared former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki and Usman Aliyu Garry to participate in the party’s fresh governorship primary election.
The development comes after the Federal High Court sitting in Gombe nullified Pantami’s earlier emergence as the PDP’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election and ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary within 30 days.
The court’s judgment, delivered on Thursday, September 24, 2026, followed a suit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry, who challenged the process that produced Pantami as the party’s candidate.
Pantami had emerged as the PDP governorship candidate in May 2026 through a voice affirmation after joining the party from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The process was later challenged by some aspirants, who questioned its compliance with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral provisions.
The PDP has since moved to comply with the court order by reopening the governorship contest. The party said the fresh primary would be conducted in line with its constitution, electoral guidelines and applicable laws.
With Pantami, Mailantarki and Garry now cleared, the party’s fresh primary is expected to determine who will emerge as its flagbearer for the 2027 Gombe State governorship election.
The PDP is expected to announce the timetable and other details of the fresh primary as preparations continue.
