Two suspected kidnappers have been killed following a gun duel with operatives of the Anambra State Police Command along Ezeowelle Road in Idemili Local Government Area.
The incident occurred when operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, reportedly spotted the suspects while on patrol in the area.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives immediately moved towards the suspects. However, the suspected kidnappers allegedly opened fire after sighting the police team.
The attack triggered a gun battle that lasted several minutes before the suspects were overpowered by the police.
Ikenga said two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the encounter, while the operatives recovered arms and other items from the scene.
The police spokesperson added that efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased suspects and establish their possible links to kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area.
The latest operation forms part of the Anambra State Police Command’s intensified efforts to disrupt criminal networks and improve security across communities in the state.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with useful information that could assist in preventing criminal activities.
