Every year on the 11th of October, the world marks the International Day of the Girl Child to highlight the importance of empowering girls and promoting their rights. Since this year’s observance fell on a weekend, Hon. Princess Magdalene Ekpe, Leader of the Akamkpa 8th Legislative Assembly and Chairman, Cross River State Councillors’ Forum, chose to commemorate it with schoolchildren on Tuesday , 14th October 2025, a decision that allowed direct engagement with the young learners who represent the future.
The outreach team, led by Hon. Princess Magdalene Ekpe, visited Immaculate Conception Secondary School, Immaculate Conception Nursery School, and Dominion Secondary School in Mfamosing, Ojuk North Ward in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
The event was held under the global theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.” It featured insightful presentations that educated and inspired the students. She emphasized the transformative power of education as the foundation for leadership, independence, and lifelong growth. To further support learning, she awarded scholarships to four male students, two each from Immaculate Conception and Dominion Secondary Schools, reflecting her commitment to inclusive educational development.
The outreach ended with the distribution of sanitary pads, educational books, and learning materials, symbolizing care and support for the students. Hon.
