The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anthony Osarobo, has been declared the winner of the Ovia South West Local Government chairmanship election held on Saturday in Edo State.

Osarobo, 30, secured a total of 98,994 votes across the local government’s 10 electoral wards to defeat candidates from 11 other political parties participating in the poll.

The result was officially announced by the Returning Officer, Dr. Arodoye Nosakhare, at the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) Local Government Collation Centre.

Declaring the outcome, Dr. Nosakhare stated that Osarobo satisfied the legal requirements for victory, having polled the highest number of valid votes cast in the election. He subsequently declared the APC candidate duly elected as Chairman of Ovia South West Local Government Area.

The victory adds to the APC’s performance in the Edo State local government elections, with results from several councils being announced by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
