The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has given assurance that there will be no abandoned projects in the university under her watch.
Prof. Obi said this while receiving the team from the Cash Management Department of the Federal Ministry of Finance in her office.
The Vice Chancellor, who said her administration is very keen in ensuring projects completed, said they have not awarded contracts for 2022 because they wanted to be sure of availability of funds before awarding any contract in other to avoid abandoned projects.
Prof. Obi said that while waiting for the release of 2022 funds, the university advertised for jobs and have equally done the technical bids as required, adding that they were awaiting for the release of funds.
She said that the next step was the financial bidding which is the final stage for the contract to be awarded.
“Having received print out from the Cash Management Office, the financial bid opening for 2022 will be done by Monday next week,” he said.
She further appeal for the immediate release of funds for projects in the institution, giving assurance that the university management was ready to kick start the 2022 projects.
The VC also assured the Team that the 2021 project which includes the Laboratories, the Engineering Workshop and Law Faculty were all completed.
Earlier, the Chief Programme Analyst, Mr Aghado Emmanuel, who spoke on behalf of the Team from the Ministry of Finance, said the purpose of the visit was to find out the extent of appropriation of revitalization funds for 2021/2022 and equally know the extent to which Management has applied the funds received so far.
He added that their visit was also to assess the projects, as well as get a GP print out where applicable.
The Team where conducted round the university for an on-the-spot assessment of the relevant projects.
