The Kano State Government has recruited 2,037 healthcare personnel in a major effort to address manpower shortages and strengthen service delivery across public health facilities in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced the development on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, while presenting appointment letters to the newly employed workers at an event in Kano.
The recruitment covers both clinical and non-clinical personnel, including medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, midwives, epidemiologists and community health extension workers.
The newly recruited personnel include 250 medical doctors, 40 pharmacists, 250 nurses, 250 midwives, 150 senior community health extension workers, 50 junior community health extension workers and 50 epidemiologists, alongside other healthcare professionals.
Governor Yusuf explained that the recruitment was necessitated by the shortage of medical personnel, which had been worsened by the migration of healthcare workers to other locations and the state’s growing population.
He expressed confidence that the new appointments would help bridge staffing gaps, improve access to quality medical services and strengthen the capacity of hospitals and other healthcare institutions across Kano State.
The governor also urged the newly employed workers to demonstrate professionalism, dedication and compassion in carrying out their duties, stressing the importance of putting patients’ welfare first.
He further disclosed that plans were underway for another round of recruitment to address the remaining manpower needs in the state’s health sector.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran-Yusuf, said the recruitment exercise was conducted on merit and without favouritism.
He warned that the employment offers were not for sale and urged anyone who had paid money to secure an appointment to report such cases to the appropriate authorities.
The latest recruitment forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen its healthcare system and improve the quality of medical services available to residents.
