The Kano State Government has shut down more than 35 private health facilities in the state over regulatory violations in the past 12 months.
The Acting Director-General of the Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Hajiya Khadijah Sa’id, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.
According to Sa’id, the closures were part of efforts to ensure that private health facilities comply with established regulations and maintain acceptable standards of healthcare delivery.
The agency is responsible for regulating private health institutions in Kano State to ensure they operate within approved guidelines and provide safe and quality medical services.
The shutdowns highlight the agency’s efforts to address violations among private healthcare providers and strengthen regulatory oversight across the state.
However, further details on the specific violations recorded by the affected facilities and whether any have since been allowed to reopen were not provided in the information available.
The development underscores the importance of regulatory compliance in the healthcare sector, particularly as residents depend on private hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities for treatment.
