Nigerian lawyer Olamide Mojigbotoluwa Ehinfun-Adekunle has made history after becoming the country’s youngest female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at the age of 40.
Her elevation to the prestigious rank has attracted attention across the legal profession, marking a major milestone in her career and an inspiring achievement for young lawyers, particularly women.
Adekunle was among 68 legal practitioners approved for elevation to the rank of SAN by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) on July 23, 2026.
She was formally conferred with the rank on October 12, 2026, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, during a ceremony marking the opening of the 2026/2027 legal year.
A partner at Afe Babalola & Co., also known as Emmanuel Chambers, Adekunle specialises in litigation, commercial dispute resolution, arbitration, oil and gas law, election petitions and legal advisory services.
She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, before attending the Nigerian Law School. She later earned a Master of Laws degree in International Trade Law from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
Adekunle joined Afe Babalola & Co. as a partner in September 2013 after gaining professional experience at other organisations.
Beyond her professional achievement, she has spoken about the challenges facing Nigeria’s justice system, particularly delays in court proceedings, which she believes increase legal costs and make access to justice more difficult.
She has also advocated reforms to improve justice delivery, reduce the burden of cases on the Supreme Court and encourage greater mentorship for younger lawyers.
Her elevation at 40 places her among the women making significant strides in Nigeria’s legal profession, demonstrating the importance of professional dedication, experience and continuous development.
The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is one of the highest professional distinctions in the country’s legal profession, awarded to lawyers who have distinguished themselves through their professional competence and contributions to the administration of justice.
