Katsina Governor Reveals What North-West Needs to Defeat Insecurity

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies and increased social and economic interventions to address the growing security challenges confronting the North-West.

Radda also urged authorities to adopt strategic media counter-propaganda measures to strengthen the morale of security personnel and prevent banditry and terrorism from receiving undue publicity.

The governor made the call on Thursday in Katsina while declaring open the second North-West Zonal Conference of State Directors of Security, organised by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Represented by his deputy, Faruk Jobe, Radda said the region’s security challenges, including terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities, require a coordinated approach involving government institutions, security agencies and local communities.

He stressed that security operations alone would not be enough to tackle the root causes of insecurity, noting the need for interventions that address social and economic vulnerabilities across the region.

The governor further called for stronger synergy among security agencies to improve intelligence sharing, coordination and operational effectiveness.

He also highlighted the role of responsible media reporting in the fight against insecurity, advocating a counter-propaganda strategy that would discourage the glorification or undue amplification of criminal activities while boosting public confidence in security forces.

Radda said sustained cooperation between government, security agencies and communities would be critical to restoring peace and stability across the North-West.

The conference brings together state directors of security and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for addressing the region’s persistent security threats.
