King Ateke receive the C’River speaker in his palace
A delegation led by the Speaker, Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams has paid a courtesy visit to the Amanyanabo of Okochiri town, His Royal Majesty, King Ateke Michael Tom at his palace in Rivers State.
The courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty had as part of its delegation, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Eric Anderson, Accountant General of the State, Mr. Joseph Adie, Director General, Cross River Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Godwin Iyala, President of Eastside Sports Club, Mr. Michael Odere, Chairman of Healthy Billionaires Fitness Club, Mr. William Archibong, Director General of the State Signage Agency, Effiom Effiwatt, Director General, Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau, Mr. Francis Ekpo and a host of other top dignitaries in government, professionals and captains of industries.
The royal visit which was facilitated by the Patron of Eastside Sports Club, Mr. Richard Akinaka was given his Royal Majesty\’s contributions, support, and impacts on the sustainability of development in the Niger Delta region, through effective traditional leadership.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Rt. Hon. Eteng Williams described King Ateke Tom as a leader who has endeared the agenda of the Niger Delta.
He told the monarch,” today there\’s peace in the Niger Delta region because of the sacrifices people like you made, You have kept your kingdom as one of the best in this part of the world, and have put Niger Delta on the map of peace, and that is what is expected of a traditional ruler.”
The Speaker who also sued for unity in the Niger Delta said “once the Niger Delta gets it right it would be easier for Nigeria to also get it right”.
In his response, King Dr. Ateke Micheal Tom, King of ancient Okochiri kingdom and Lion of the Niger Delta who responded through his spokesman said the royal father expresses delight in receiving a special team like this from Cross River State.
The monarch said he loves to associate with organisations that develop people in character and learning such as this group.
The spokesman described King Ateke Tom as a leader who sleeps less, eats less, and thinks more.
“He thinks the Niger Delta region and since you are products of the Niger Delta region, he will continue to support you”, he assured.
The highlight of the visit was the unveiling of King Ateke Tom as the Grand Patron of the Eastside Sports Club and the official invitation of the Royal father to the Calabar Cultural Festival/Carnival on the 26th of December, 2022.
The guests were treated to a royal banquet and a tour around the palace.
