Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security Defends 2025 Budget Proposal
The Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, has defended his ministry’s 2025 budget proposal before the State Assembly.
He announced that the ministry’s total budget estimate for 2025 is ₦14.2 billion. The goal of the budget is to improve food production and ensure food security across the state.
Commissioner Ojomah praised the leadership of Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo. He expressed confidence that Kogi State will become a key player in national food production by 2025.
Despite challenges in 2024, like droughts and floods in some areas, Kogi State achieved success in food production. The commissioner assured farmers that the government will continue to provide support and resources to boost their efforts.
Kogi State is already the leading producer of cassava and cashew in Nigeria. This has made the state an important market center for neighboring states. The government plans to build on this success by providing more help to farmers.
In 2025, the government will expand its interventions, increasing farmland from 10,000 hectares to over 50,000 hectares. The state will also focus on growing other cash crops like sisal, cocoa, palm trees, and cashews. To achieve this, partnerships will be made with agricultural organizations to provide training, funding, and tools for farmers.
The commissioner highlighted Governor Ododo’s plan to fully mechanize agriculture in Kogi State. This means introducing advanced tools, irrigation systems, and better equipment to improve farming and reduce food waste.
He encouraged all farmers, investors, and stakeholders to support this vision. He said that with teamwork, Kogi State can become a food production leader in Nigeria.
“With this plan, we will ensure food security, create jobs, and improve lives. Kogi State is ready to lead the way in agriculture,” Ojomah said.
