Lagos Takes New Step to Improve Security as 1,800 Officers Complete Training

Written by Mary Bassey

The Lagos State Government has trained 1,800 law enforcement officers from seven agencies in a move aimed at improving professionalism, discipline and service delivery across the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Thursday, October 15, 2026, during the passing-out parade of the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), where the officers graduated after completing a mandatory in-service training programme.

Represented by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), the governor said effective law enforcement was essential to good governance and the creation of a safe environment for residents, businesses, investors and visitors.

Sanwo-Olu urged the officers to demonstrate integrity, discipline and impartiality while carrying out their duties, stressing the importance of responsible conduct and respect for citizens’ rights.

He also emphasised that law enforcement personnel must earn public trust through professionalism and fair treatment of members of the public.

The training comes amid growing national discussions about the establishment of state police in Nigeria, with security and policing reforms remaining important issues in efforts to address the country’s security challenges.

The Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute is responsible for promoting professional standards, ethical conduct and competence among law enforcement personnel in the state.

The government expects the training to strengthen the officers’ capacity to perform their duties effectively and improve public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

The graduation of the 1,800 officers represents part of Lagos State’s broader efforts to strengthen security administration and improve the quality of service delivered by its enforcement agencies.
