Former Kaduna State Governor and Senator, Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has called on Nigerian leaders to draw lessons from the life and leadership of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), particularly his commitment to justice, inclusivity, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
Makarfi made the call in his goodwill message to Muslims across Nigeria and the world as they commemorate the 1448 AH Eid-el-Maulud, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The former governor congratulated the Muslim Ummah and humanity on the occasion, describing the birth and mission of the Prophet as a historic event that significantly influenced the course of human civilisation.
He said the celebration should not be limited to festivities but should also provide an opportunity for Muslims and other Nigerians to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings, character and approach to leadership.
According to Makarfi, the Prophet’s teachings emphasised submission to Allah, peaceful coexistence, good neighbourliness, universal brotherhood, humility and selflessness.
He particularly highlighted Prophet Muhammad’s inclusive and equitable leadership, saying it provided important lessons for leaders in a diverse country such as Nigeria.
Makarfi noted that the Prophet’s ability to bring Muslims, Jews and other members of society in Madina under a system based on mutual respect and fairness demonstrated the importance of inclusivity in leadership.
He therefore urged Nigerians to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence across religious, ethnic and cultural divides, stressing that such values were essential to national unity and development.
The former governor also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the country amid the various challenges confronting the nation.
He urged political leaders to seek divine guidance and govern with wisdom, righteousness, justice and fairness in order to promote stability and development.
Makarfi wished Muslims a peaceful and spiritually rewarding Eid-el-Maulud celebration, urging Nigerians to reflect on the values of compassion, justice, tolerance and service to humanity.
