Earlier this morning, the Honorable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs received in her office a representative of the Red Cross.
Mr. Fortune Inyang, who\’s part of the representative organization of the Red Cross, appreciates the honorable commissioner for accepting them into her office. The visit included the introduction of the staff of the Red Cross and the duties handled by each member.
Mr. Fortune further called on his colleague on the Disaster Unit, Mr. Agbo, to outline the way forward on disaster cases in Cross River. Agbo officially congratulated the honorable commissioner on her appointment. Mr. Agbo explicitly explained the level of disaster management the Red Cross Organization has and will need collaboration from the ministry. He further explained that it\’s important for familiarization with the ministry because the disaster department relates to the ministry for humanitarian affairs.
Agbo informs the Honorable Commissioner of the plans to set up teams at certain locations in Calabar, more so within the state, to help stand in for urgent cases around the environment.
Mr. Daniel Asuquo, Head of Training, calls on the attention of the Honourable Commissioner to expose her staff to undergo training on emergency response; he therefore explains the importance of undergoing such training not just for the staff of the ministry but for the entire state.
Mr. Daniel Asuquo explained further the important role of Red Cross Organisations, pointing out the level of patronage from the Federal Government level down to Local Government. He reassured the Honorable Commissioner that volunteers aren\’t a problem when it comes to Red Cross intervention.
Mr. Daniel Asuquo pleaded with the Commissioner to grant the organization a day to train staff of the ministry.
Permanent Secretary of Ministry, Mrs. Mbong Atu Ausaji, expressed gratitude for having the Red Cross Organization at the Ministry and explains the zeal for the Honourable Commissioner to work tirelessly to see Cross-Riverians have better welfare.
The Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Helen Isamoh Egodo-PhD, appreciates the representative of the Red Cross Organizations for recognizing her office, adding that the doors of the Ministry is always open.
She further ensures the Ministry full support whenever such attention is needed. She ends with an emphasis on a proper working environment between the Ministry and the Red Cross organization.
