The worshippers abducted during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) crusade in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have regained their freedom after spending 67 days in captivity.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the development on Friday, saying the victims had been successfully rescued through sustained security operations.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Sunday Abutu, disclosed that the victims were rescued on Friday, bringing an end to the nearly 10-week ordeal that followed their abduction during a church crusade.
The worshippers were kidnapped when armed assailants invaded the Christ Apostolic Church programme in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, an incident that sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for improved security across the state.
Although the police did not immediately disclose whether any ransom was paid or provide details of the rescue operation, Abutu assured residents that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that would assist security operatives in tackling criminal activities across the state.
The victims are expected to undergo medical evaluation and receive necessary support following their release after weeks in captivity.
