The Bauchi State Police Command has foiled an alleged attempt to rustle eight cows in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday after a resident alerted the police to the suspected movement of cattle believed to have been targeted by rustlers.
Following the tip-off, police operatives swiftly mobilised to the area, prompting the suspected rustlers to flee and abandon the eight cows and a vehicle allegedly used in the operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi State, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.
Habib said the police recovered the animals and the vehicle after responding to the information provided by the resident.
The command did not disclose the identities of the suspected rustlers, as efforts to apprehend those who fled the scene were ongoing.
The incident highlights the role of timely information from residents in helping security agencies prevent cattle rustling and other criminal activities in the state.
The Bauchi State Police Command has continued to urge residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The recovered cattle and vehicle are expected to assist the police in their ongoing investigation into the attempted rustling operation.
