Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals after securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Belgium in an entertaining quarter-final clash on Friday.
The Spaniards took the lead in the 30th minute through midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who calmly finished to put his side ahead after a dominant spell of possession.
Belgium responded strongly and drew level just before halftime when Charles De Ketelaere found the back of the net in the 41st minute, scoring the first goal Spain have conceded at the tournament.
With both sides pushing for a winner in the second half, the match remained evenly contested until a costly mistake by Belgium goalkeeper Senne Lammens proved decisive. The goalkeeper’s error gifted Spain the winning goal, sending Luis de la Fuente’s side into the last four.
The victory sets up a highly anticipated semi-final showdown between Spain and France, with both European heavyweights aiming to secure a place in the World Cup final.
Spain have impressed throughout the tournament with their disciplined defending, possession-based football and clinical finishing, while Belgium bow out after a spirited display that ultimately ended in disappointment.
The semi-final between Spain and France is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the tournament as both teams battle for a place in the final.
