The fire outbreak at EKA IKA OQUA MARKET (Marian Market) has become a notorious situation; also today fire outbreak at night is almost becoming a regular occurrence.
It is even more worrisome to note that after thorough painstaking investigations and careful assessment it was revealed that the damage caused by the fire inferno in Marian Market although no life was lost, properties worth millions where destroyed.
According to eyewitnesses, men of the federal fire service responded promptly to douse the fire but still the damage to properties was already done. From investigations carried out it was even noted that the cause of the fire, which started around 9pm on Monday was unclear.
I will like to at this juncture, tender my unreserved sympathy and support to the hardworking individuals, families and people affected by the outbreak. Stanley Nsemo also encourage and admonish all and sundry that every action or inaction should be calculated, conscious and careful. All hands must be on deck to see that disastrous and painful happenings as this becomes a thing of the past.
I must make haste to state clearly that the cries of the people are real, their demands for a responsive government are valid. I must also further make haste to acknowledge the governor\’s recent efforts, with regards to the fire fighting vans/trucks he bought for our dear State; not forgetting the strides of the L.G.A Chairman driven by accountability and transparency.
My prayers in times like this is that God grant us the enabling grace and will power to make policies and take tangible steps towards arresting this disastrous situations. TOGETHER WE CAN take steps towards securing a Fire Insurance policy that covers for happenings of this nature, specifically for IKA IKA OQUA MARKET, so that individuals and families don\’t suffer alone when these unforseen circumstance occur. I feel the discomfort, I perceive the innate desires of every concerned persons towards fostering a better Cross River in particular and Nigeria in general, that we all will be proud of.
