President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former FirstBank Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan, ahead of his formal installation as the Balogun of Oyo.
Adeduntan is scheduled to be installed on Saturday, September 5, 2026, by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.
In a congratulatory message issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the traditional title as both an honour and a call to greater service to the Oyo Kingdom and its people.
The President urged Adeduntan to bring the discipline, strategic foresight and commitment to excellence that characterised his professional career to his new traditional responsibilities.
Tinubu also recalled Adeduntan’s career in banking and finance, particularly his tenure as Group CEO of FirstBank, where he led what the presidency described as a far-reaching transformation of the financial institution.
Beyond banking, the President highlighted Adeduntan’s contributions to education, healthcare, philanthropy and economic development.
He specifically noted his service as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, as well as the work of the Adesola Adeduntan Foundation in supporting modern primary healthcare centres serving communities in Oyo and Ibadan.
Tinubu also acknowledged Adeduntan’s investments in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
The President urged the incoming Balogun to use his experience, influence and resources to promote peace, development and opportunities while helping preserve Oyo’s rich cultural heritage.
The installation ceremony was initially scheduled for July but was postponed following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The victims were later reunited with their families.
Adeduntan will succeed the late Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of the old Oyo State, who previously held the Balogun title. The position is regarded as one of the prominent traditional offices associated with leadership, courage and public service in the historic Oyo Kingdom.
Tinubu wished Adeduntan success in his new role, expressing confidence that his experience and resources would contribute positively to the Alaafin, the Oyo Kingdom and its people.
