The Nigerian military has intensified its nationwide counter-terrorism operations, neutralising 76 terrorists, arresting 97 suspected criminals, rescuing 465 kidnapped victims, and receiving the surrender of 11 insurgents alongside members of their families within the latest operational period.

The achievements were disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Mike Onoja, during a briefing on ongoing military operations across the country.

According to Onoja, troops deployed under various military operations sustained offensive actions against terrorist groups, insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves and other criminal elements operating in different parts of Nigeria.

He stated that the operations resulted in the elimination of 76 terrorists, while 97 suspected terrorists and other criminal collaborators were arrested. Troops also rescued 465 victims who had been abducted by criminal gangs during coordinated clearance and rescue missions.

The Defence spokesman further revealed that 11 insurgents voluntarily surrendered to troops along with members of their families, attributing the development to sustained military pressure, intelligence-led operations and ongoing non-kinetic measures aimed at encouraging defections from terrorist groups.

Major General Onoja noted that military operations also led to the recovery of a cache of arms, ammunition, motorcycles and other logistics used by criminal elements, while troops continued to destroy terrorist hideouts and dismantle criminal networks in several theatres of operation.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustaining offensive operations until peace and security are restored across the country. He also urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence to aid ongoing operations.

The military maintained that the fight against terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of criminality remains a top priority, assuring Nigerians that troops will continue to intensify efforts to protect lives, secure communities and safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity.
