The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Alumni Class of 1989 is set to hold its inaugural reunion, more than three decades after graduation.
The milestone was announced during a recent courtesy visit by members of the Class of ’89 to the Directorate of Alumni Affairs, University of Calabar, Calabar.

Speaking on the initiative, team leader Prof. Patrick Okonta said the reunion is aimed at reconnecting members of the class while strengthening relationships between the alumni, the university and other stakeholders.
Another member of the Class of ’89, Prof. Sunny Agba Bisong, commended the initiative, noting that the reunion would deepen alumni engagement and foster a renewed sense of community among members.
The Director of Alumni Affairs, Prof. Saturday Etuk, who was represented by Mr. Moses I. Sang, welcomed the Class of ’89 and assured members of the Directorate’s full support towards ensuring a successful launch of their alumni activities.
Class of ’89 Alumni to Reconnect After Over 30 Years
The Class of 1989 represents a significant cohort in the history of the University of Calabar. More than three decades after graduation, many members have established themselves in academia, business, government and public service.
The reunion is expected to provide an opportunity for members to reconnect, share experiences and contribute meaningfully to the development of their alma mater.
Organisers are currently working on the date and programme of activities for the reunion, which is expected to attract alumni from different parts of the country and beyond.
Planned activities include networking sessions, lectures and social gatherings aimed at celebrating the achievements of the Class of ’89 while strengthening lasting relationships among members.
