The Management of the University of Calabar has announced the ban on the despicable practice of \”Water Ritual among students\” in the institution describing it as unwholesome and unacademic.
The Registrar of the University of Calabar, Mr Gabriel Egbe in a release said that the disturbing practice where water is poured sporadically on both Matriculating and Graduating students as an \”initiation rite\” was unacceptable as it depicts human right abuse.
According to the release, the Vice Chancellor directed that the degrading practice be discontinued against the backdrop of a viral video clip where an innocent, female student was visually subjected to indignity at the last matriculation event by a group of young men who indulged in the inhumane and barbaric action.

The release further disclosed that besides the official discontinuance of the unacceptable act, a committee has been put in place to investigate the circumstances which lead to the ugly act and assured that those found culpable will be sanctioned appropriately The Acting Chief Security officer and other relevant officers in the University have been tasked to ensure that the ugly episode never occurs again.
