Written by Mary Bassey

An Abeokuta Magistrate Court in Ogun State has ordered the remand of three men accused of killing a retired broadcaster with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The suspects—Sodeinde Olajunwon Phillip, Sobu Obafunsho, and Shakirudeen Ayoola—were on Monday remanded at the Oba Correctional Centre for 60 days pending legal advice from the Ogun State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The order was issued by Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo of Magistrate Court 3, Isabo, Abeokuta, following an ex parte application filed by the Nigeria Police.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged murder of the retired OGTV broadcaster and her security guard. The prosecution requested that the suspects be remanded while investigations are concluded and the case file is forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal review.

Chief Magistrate Odubanjo granted the request, directing that the defendants remain in custody at the Oba Correctional Centre for 60 days pending the DPP’s legal advice.

The alleged killings have sparked concern among residents and media professionals in Ogun State, with many calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice for the victims.

The case has been adjourned pending the outcome of the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
