The World Health Organization (WHO) warmly represented by Olumuyiwa Ojo has commended the Cross River State Government for its efforts in developing the infrastructure of the College of Nursing in Obudu. The college has successfully transitioned from a school of post Basic Midwifery to a collegiate institution, showcasing significant transformations, including the expansion from a single-block classroom to a more comprehensive facility with multiple classrooms and available land for future development.
The WHO recognition comes during a visit to assess the college’s readiness to receive donations from the WHO and UK Government to support nursing education and training. Dr. Olumuyiwa Ojo, leading the WHO representatives, expressed satisfaction with the college’s progress, acknowledging the effective use of previous donations and the college’s readiness to receive further support.
The Commissioner for Health, CRS, Elder (Dr) Henry Ajuk, represented by Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing , thanked the WHO and UK Government for their ongoing support and praised the college’s administrative efficiency. He assured the government’s commitment to collaborating with the WHO and other partners to ensure top-notch infrastructure and comprehensive nursing programs across all colleges.
The Provost of the College of Nursing, Obudu, Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Undeshi, appreciated the development initiatives driven by His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu and the long-standing support from the WHO. She guaranteed the safe handling of equipment and donations.
This development is part of the Cross River State Government’s efforts to improve nursing education and training in the state. The government has invested in upgrading nursing facilities, including the College of Nursing in Obudu, to provide high-quality nursing education and training, ensuring that nursing professionals are well-equipped to provide excellent healthcare services.
