Why Church Group Seeks Stronger School Security After Oyo Pupils, Teachers Regain Freedom

Written by Mary Bassey

The Western Nigeria Union Conference Adventist Men’s Organisation has called for stronger and sustained security measures in schools, worship centres and communities following the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The organisation stressed that protecting children, teachers and other vulnerable members of society should remain a top priority for government and security agencies at all levels.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of the WNUC Adventist Men’s Organisation, Olusola Olayinka, and the organisation’s Public Relations Officer, Omobolaji Akangbe, expressed gratitude to God for the safe rescue of the victims. They also commended the efforts of security personnel and everyone involved in securing their freedom.

While celebrating the rescue, the group urged the Federal Government, Oyo State Government and security agencies not to relent in strengthening security around schools, religious centres and rural communities, noting that recent incidents of kidnapping highlight the need for improved surveillance and rapid emergency response.

The organisation further called for closer collaboration between security agencies, local communities and educational institutions to prevent future attacks. It encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities that could threaten public safety.

According to the statement, ensuring the safety of pupils, teachers and other citizens is essential to creating a secure environment where education and community life can thrive without fear.

The WNUC Adventist Men’s Organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, safety and the protection of lives across the country.
